In this type of ignition system, ignition timing is constantly controlled by the engine management system ECU and cannot be checked.
The only method by which the ignition timing can be checked is by using special electronic diagnostic equipment linked to the engine management system via a diagnostic coupling (for details, see the relevant Section of Chapter Power and exhaust systems). No adjustment of the ignition timing is possible. If the ignition timing is set incorrectly, the fault may also be present in the engine management system.
