Removal



1. Remove the air cleaner ducts from the left side of the engine (refer to Chapter Power and exhaust systems).

2. Loosen the mounting screws and remove the cover from the distributor housing. Move the cover and spark plug wiring to the side, or if necessary, separate the wires from the cover, spark plugs and holder and remove them (refer to the illustrations).

4a. Using a socket wrench, loosen the two mounting bolts.

5. Remove the seal from the distributor base (refer to the accompanying illustration).

Inspection



1. Check the distributor rotor and distributor cap (refer to Chapter Maintenance) and replace them if necessary.

2. Check the clearance between the distributor shaft and the housing. It should not be excessive. Otherwise, the distributor should be replaced.

3. Check the condition of the distributor base seal and replace it if necessary.

Installation



1. Install in reverse order. If the distributor cap is to be replaced, transfer the spark plug high-voltage wires from the old cap to the new cap.
