Removing
1. Before removing the fuel tank, all fuel must be removed from it.
2. Disconnect the earth cable from the battery (contact the head Engine electrical equipment).
Attention! If the car radio in your car is coded, make sure you know the code before disconnecting the battery.
3. Remove a back seat or a pillow of a back seat as it is described in the Head Body, to access the fuel gauge cover.
4. Using a screwdriver, carefully remove the cover to gain access to the pump.
5. If there is fuel left in the fuel tank, it can be removed by removing the fuel reserve sensor as described in Section Removal and installation of the gauge of a stock of fuel, and pumping out the fuel from the tank.
6. Disconnect the wiring connector from the fuel gauge and attach it to the car body.
7. Disconnect the supply and return hoses, refer to Section Removal and installation of the gauge of a stock of fuel.
8. Block the front wheels, then jack up the rear of the vehicle and place it on axle stands. Remove the right rear wheel.
9. Remove the exhaust system and heat shield, refer to Section General description and replacement of exhaust system components.
10. Note the position of the adjusting nut on the back of the handbrake equalizer rod, then unscrew and remove it and separate the handbrake cables from the holders on the bottom. Move the cables away from the fuel tank.
11. Disconnect the hoses from the fuel filler neck.
12. Support the tank with a jack, laying a piece of board between them.
13. Unscrew and remove the fixing bolts, then slowly lower the fuel tank, disconnecting all the pipes that become accessible, and remove the tank from under the car. Note that it may be necessary to carefully bend the brake lines to ensure sufficient clearance when lowering the tank.
14. If sediment or water has accumulated in the tank, remove the fuel gauge (Chapter Removal and installation of the gauge of a stock of fuel) and flush the tank with clean fuel. The tank is made of synthetic material and if it is seriously damaged, it should be replaced. Small leaks can sometimes be repaired. Seek advice from a specialist.
Installation
1. Install in the reverse order of removal paying attention to the following:
- a) When lifting the tank back to the working position, make sure that no hoses are pinched between the tank and the vehicle body.
- b) Make sure all tubes and hoses are properly routed.
- With) Finally, fill the tank with a small amount of fuel and check for signs of leakage.
