Make sure the battery tray is in good condition. Corrosion on the tray, clamp and battery can be removed with an aqueous solution of soda. Rinse all cleaned areas completely with water. All metal parts damaged by corrosion must be treated with a zinc primer, then painted.
Periodically (approximately every three months) check the degree of charge of the battery, as described in Chapter Engine electrical equipment.
1. On all models except the Scenic, the battery is located in the right rear corner of the engine compartment. On Scenic models, it is located under the driver's seat. Visually inspect the battery for damage, such as a cracked case or cover (refer to accompanying illustration).
2. Check up reliability of an inhaling of clips of plugs of the accumulator. Also check each cable for cracks and frayed spots (refer to accompanying illustration).
3. If there is corrosion (white flakes), disconnect the cables from the battery terminals, clean them with a wire brush and reinstall. Car shops sell tools for cleaning battery terminals (refer to accompanying illustration).
4. Please note that to remove the positive battery cable terminal, you must unscrew the nut installed under the plastic cover (refer to accompanying illustration).
