Periodically (approximately every three months) check the battery charge level as described in Chapter Engine electrical equipment.

1. On all models except Scenic, the battery is located in the right rear corner of the engine compartment. On Scenic models, it is located under the driver's seat. Visually inspect the battery for damage, such as a cracked case or cover (refer to the accompanying illustration).

2. Check the battery terminal clamps for tightness. Also check each cable for cracks and frayed areas (refer to the accompanying illustration).

3. If there is corrosion (white flakes), disconnect the cables from the battery terminals, clean them with a wire brush, and reinstall them. Auto supply stores sell tools to clean battery terminals (refer to the accompanying illustration).

4. Please note that to remove the positive battery cable terminal, you must unscrew the nut located under the plastic cover (refer to the accompanying illustration).
