Removing
1. Apply the handbrake, then jack up the front of the vehicle and place it on axle stands. Remove the front wheel.
2. If the ball joint cannot be replaced, use a ruler and marking tool to mark its position relative to the tie rod.
3. Loosen the ball joint pinch bolt.
4. Remove the nut securing the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Remove the hinge pin using a special puller. If the pivot cannot be replaced, protect the threaded end of the pivot by re-threading the nut before using the puller.
5. Counting the number of revolutions, unscrew the ball joint from the tie rod.
6. Carefully clean the ball joint and its threads. Replace the tie rod end if the tie rod moves too freely or with difficulty, if it is excessively worn or damaged. Carefully inspect the cone and thread of the rod. If the protective boot is damaged, replace the tie rod end as it is not possible to replace the protective cover separately.
Installation
1. Screw the tip into the tie rod for the counted number of revolutions. The marks made before removing the label must be aligned.
2. Install the ball joint pin and steering knuckle and tighten the fixing nut to Specifications effort. If this cannot be done due to the rotation of the rod, block it by supporting the hinge with a jack.
3. Install the wheel, lower the vehicle to the ground and tighten the wheel bolts to Specifications effort.
4. Check up a convergence of forward wheels as it is described in the Section Wheel alignment, then tighten the ball joint pinch bolt to Specifications effort.
