Removal
- To remove and install the automatic transmission, you must remove the power unit.
- Disconnect the connector from the vehicle speed sensor.
- Release the two engine wiring harness fasteners on the front of the automatic transmission and secure the wires to the engine
- Disconnect the engine cooling hoses from the automatic transmission heat exchanger.
- Remove the exhaust pipe heat shield.
- Remove the torque converter housing protective covers.
- Remove the three bolts securing the torque converter to the drive disc (D, fig. 7.15).

- Remove the bolts and remove the oil filter heat shield.
- Remove the clamp securing the starter wires.
- Disconnect the starter power wire and the starter traction relay wire from the starter.
- Remove the three starter mounting bolts.
- If necessary, cut the plastic clamp securing the wiring harness.
- Remove the starter. Save the shield located between the starter and the torque converter housing.
- With the power unit standing on supports, move the automatic transmission approximately 1 cm.
- Remove the last bolts securing the torque converter housing to the engine.
- With an assistant, disconnect the automatic transmission from the engine, being careful not to touch the gear ring of the TDC sensor on the flywheel or the torque converter with the crankshaft output shaft.
Installation
- When connecting the torque converter to the flywheel, the same precautions must be taken as when removing it.
- Check the presence of bushings centering the position of the gearbox.
- Apply a coat of Molykote BR2 grease to the torque converter centering bushing.
- Install the gearbox onto the engine and screw in the two lower mounting bolts.
- Screw in the bolts securing the torque converter to the drive disk, while blocking the flywheel from turning.
Note. Do not use the ignition timing sensor to lock the flywheel from turning, as this will damage it.
- Pour transmission fluid into the gearbox.
- Further installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
- Program the operation of the load potentiometer.
