This Section describes a single plate dry clutch with pressure plate and diaphragm spring. Clutch control is carried out by a clutch pedal drive cable with an automatic gap compensator or by means of a hydraulic system (V6 engine). The pressure plate and diaphragm spring are assembled into a single unit and, if damaged, they must be changed together. Please note that not all models described in this Section have the same grip.
Later models with 4-cylinder petrol and diesel engines have the same type of clutch, but their friction discs are different. The friction disc of the gasoline engine has 4 damper springs, the diesel engine has 8. On earlier models (e.g. J112/J116) a different type of clutch is installed.
