Clutch — General Description (Renault Espace I)

This Section describes a single-plate dry clutch with a pressure plate and a diaphragm spring. The clutch is controlled by a clutch pedal drive cable with an automatic clearance compensator or by a hydraulic system (v6 engine). The pressure plate and diaphragm spring are assembled into a single unit and if damaged, they must be replaced together. Please note that not all models described in this Section have the same clutch.

Later models with 4-cylinder petrol and diesel engines have the same type of clutch, but their friction discs are different. The friction disc of the petrol engine has 4 damper springs, the diesel engine - 8. On earlier models (for example J112/J116) a different type of clutch is installed.
