2. When checking the ignition, the engine must be idling. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the distributor.
3. Control and adjust the ignition as follows:
4. Install the stroboscope according to the manufacturer's instructions.
5. Start the engine and let it idle. Adjust the idle speed in advance, because a bad idle speed will not get a good ignition timing.
6. Remove the plastic cover from the flywheel housing.
7. Aim the strobe beam at the window and make sure that the mark appears stationary and is in line with the fixed pointer. The engine is at the correct ignition timing when the mark on the flywheel, which appears stationary under the influence of the strobe light, is in the window in the flywheel housing as shown (see illustration). The ignition timing is 10°BTDC, with a tolerance of 1°in both directions.

8. To adjust, slightly loosen the clamping rail and turn the ignition distributor while watching the mark on the flywheel until it takes the correct position in the window.
9. Stop the engine, fix the clamping rail and check the ignition timing again after connecting the vacuum hose. The ignition should now be early.
10. The ignition distributor of a fuel injected engine cannot be adjusted. In the event of a malfunction in the ignition system, check the electronic module.
