The toothed rack protruding from its housing is protected on the left and right by sealing collars. Through damaged cuffs, dirt and moisture can even get into a well-protected steering gear. When mixed with steering gear lubricant, dirt and moisture form an abrasive paste that gradually eats away at the small steering gear. The sign of this is «viscous» steering with the steering wheel straight, no improvement after adjustment, with the wheels clamping when turning, and no rebound effect, that is, the wheels do not return on their own to the straight-ahead position.
1. Use a flashlight to illuminate the bellows to be checked.
2. Turn the steering wheel all the way to the right and left respectively, then check the ribs of the cuff bellows for tears or cracks.
3. Are the clamps on the sealing collar tight?
4. Replace the damaged sealing cuff with the right one.
