As already mentioned, the Renault 19 front suspension is equipped with a MacPherson shock absorber strut. The concept of a shock absorber strut is understood as a spring and a shock absorber combined into a single system - the shock absorber is installed inside the spring.
The suspension struts absorb shocks from the road to the front wheels by compressing the spring. Received shocks are softened by a telescopic shock absorber. Internal travel stops in the shock strut limit the amount of downward travel. The upward movement of the spring is limited by an elastic limiter, which acts during severe elastic deformation - for example, when driving over potholes, preventing the spring from fully compressing. In this way, the movement of the spring is maintained within a certain range and its action is enhanced. The 16-valve Renault 19 is equipped with more powerful springs.
