Note: When installing, use a new pan gasket or suitable sealant (where it is applied).
Removal
1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery (see Section 5A).
Warning: If your car's radio is coded, make sure you have the key code before disconnecting the battery.
2. Drain the engine oil (see Section 1), then install and tighten the drain plug to the specified tightening torque Specifications (use a new washer).
3. Jack up the front of the vehicle and support it on axle stands. Where present, remove the lower engine shield.
4. Unscrew the reinforcing rod (where available) between the front suspension towers.
5. On F8Q engines, remove the mounting bolts and the upper plastic drive belt/right engine mount cover. On F9Q engines, remove the mounting nuts and the engine sound cover.
6. Use a winch to support the weight of the engine/transmission.
7. Remove the bolts securing the exhaust outlet pipe to the exhaust manifold. Separate the drain pipe and support it.
8. Unscrew the flywheel bracket/cover. Please note that one of the bolts secures the rear suspension bracket to the transmission, and a socket wrench will be required to remove the bolts securing the bracket to the engine.
9. Remove the holders securing the power steering hydraulic line to the right side of the engine subframe.
10. Remove the nut securing the right engine mount upper bracket to the engine stop/rubber mount assembly on the body.
11. Raise the engine enough to allow removal of the oil pan.
12. Remove the bolts securing the oil pan to the cylinder block, but leave the two diagonally opposite ones.
13. Separate the pan from the base of the cylinder block. Do not use a screwdriver as it may damage the contact surfaces.
14. Unscrew the two remaining bolts and lower the pan. Remove the gasket where present.
15. Clean the cylinder block and oil pan from any remaining gasket or sealant.
Installation
16. Check the cleanliness of the mating surfaces of the oil pan and cylinder block.
17. Where fitted, position a new gasket on the sump, or if no gasket is present, apply a 1mm wide sealant - Renault recommends Rhodorseal 5661 - to the mating surface of the sump (on the outside of the pallet groove).
18. If a gasket is not used, it is important to position the pan so that it does not have to be moved again once the sealant contacts the cylinder block. Long bolts or pins can be used as guides.
19. To prevent oil from dripping from the oil pump and cylinder block, wipe these areas clean before installing the oil pan.
20. Press the pan against the cylinder block, then insert the bolts and gradually tighten them to the tightening torque specified in the Specifications.
21. Lower the engine, then install and tighten the right engine mount nut.
22. Install the power steering hydraulic line holders.
23. Install the flywheel/drive plate reinforcement bracket cover and tighten the mounting bolts.
24. Install the exhaust outlet pipe and tighten the bolts.
25. Remove the winch and install the upper plastic drive belt/right engine mount cover or sound deadening cover where equipped.
26. Where applicable, install the reinforcement rod between the front suspension towers and tighten the bolts.
27. Connect the battery, then lower the car to the ground.
28. Fill the engine with fresh oil as described in Section 1.
