Removing
If the ball joint boot is damaged, replace the ball joint assembly.
- turn on the parking brake;
- raise the front of the vehicle, place safety supports under the body and remove the appropriate wheel;
- unscrew the bolts and unscrew the nuts securing the stabilizer to the suspension arm;
Figure 5.6. The arrow indicates the upper bolt of the support bar
- if there is a supporting bar in the design, unscrew the bolts of its fastening to the side member and the front bolt of the lever axis (see Figure 5.6 and 5.7);
Figure 5.7. The arrow indicates the nut for fastening the lower part of the support bar
- unscrew the nut and remove the bolt of the clamp securing the ball joint to the steering knuckle;
- remove the support pin from the clamp, without damaging the covers of the support and the CV joint, as well as the plastic protective gasket of the hinge;
Figure 5.9. Removing the ball joint of the lower arm of the front suspension: 1 - plastic protective gasket; 2 – bolts of fastening of a support; 3 – bolts of fastening of the lever
- unscrew the two nuts securing the support from the lower arm and remove the bolts and washers (Figure 5.9);
Inspect the ball joint: the pin should move without jamming in the body and not have excessive wear, the support cover is non-removable and, if damaged, is replaced along with the support.
Installation
Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal. Bolted connections are tightened finally after installation of the car on wheels.
