The multi-function switch informs the ECU of the position of the gear selector lever, preventing the starter from starting when gears are engaged and controlling the reversing lights. The switch is mounted on top of the gearbox housing under the air intake duct.

Removal procedure:
  • disconnect the negative battery cable;
  • set the selector lever to position "D";
  • remove the air intake duct;

  • check the wiring from the switch to the modular connector (see fig. 4.39) and disconnect the 12-pin connector from the block. Remove the switch from the gearbox housing.

Installation and adjustment procedure:
  • connect the contact connector to the switch and screw in the mounting bolts of its bracket;
  • set the switch to position "D";
  • install the switch on the gearbox housing and hand tighten the two bolts that secure it;
  • connect the selector cable end to the shift lever;
  • with the selector lever and switch in the "N" position, connect an ohmmeter between the two test terminals on the side of the switch;
  • turn the switch housing until the terminals are closed (zero on ohmmeter). While holding the switch in this position, tighten the mounting bolts;
  • install the air intake duct and connect the battery;
  • make sure that the starter can only be engaged when the selector lever is in the "P" or "N" positions.
