Removal and installation glow plugs



Removal glow plugs

1. Remove the engine cover.

2. Remove the turbocharger outlet pipe.

3. Unhook the protective cover of the fuel rail from the fasteners (1).

4. Loosen the bolt (2) of the fuel rail protective cover.

5. Remove the protective cover of the fuel rail.

6. Disconnect the connectors (3) from the glow plugs.

Caution: When performing the following operation, use glasses with side protection.


7. Use compressed air to clean the outer surfaces around the glow plugs to prevent any contaminants from entering the engine cylinders.

8. Loosen the glow plugs (4) using a 10 mm long socket with a universal joint or a special glow plug wrench.

Note: If the glow plugs are stuck, use a special tool kit to remove them (catalog number 77 11 420 611), following the instructions supplied with the tool by the manufacturer.




9. Using a hose, completely unscrew the glow plugs from the engine.

Installing glow plugs

1. Using a hose, insert and tighten the glow plugs.

2. Tighten the glow plugs using a 10 mm long socket with a universal joint or a special glow plug wrench to a torque of 15 N·m.

3. Connect the connectors to the glow plugs.

4. Install the fuel rail protective cover.

5. Hook the fasteners of the protective cover of the fuel rail.
