Removing
Place the car on a two post lift.
Put the wheels in the straight ahead position.
Unlock column.
Before doing any work on the airbag systems, lock the computer using the diagnostic tools. This will unlock the electric steering column lock.
Remove the airbag.
Remove the wire blocks from the airbag, the wire blocks from the steering wheel, the steering wheel mounting bolt.
Turn off two bolts of fastening of facing casings, the top facing casing with a decorative overlay of a panel of devices.
Remove the lower facing casing.
Separate sockets of understeering switches and a contact disk.
Loosen the steering column switch mounting bolt. For access to a bolt establish a contact disk of an airbag in average position.
Unscrew the fixing bolt of the electric lock.
Attention! The electric lock bolt has a left-hand thread. It turns clockwise when the steering column is unlocked.
Remove the electric lock.
In the engine compartment, remove the bolt and nut of the terminal connection of the steering shaft universal joint yoke.
If the nut does not release, tighten the bolt a few turns and hit it to release the nut.
Inside the vehicle, remove the steering column cover from the bulkhead.
Remove:
- instrument panel mounting bolt A;
- two steering column mounting bolts B;
- steering column.
Installation
Attention! Removed bolts of the universal joint yoke of the steering shaft and steering wheel are not reused and must be replaced. Strictly observe the tightening torque of the bolts.
Install Dir. 1594 to center the steering column while locking it (shaft ring 1 must be visible in front of the fixture).
Install the steering column on the car.
Install the steering column cover on the bulkhead. Before doing this, make sure that the plastic retaining ring is in the correct position.
Install:
- steering shaft universal joint yoke, tighten the terminal connection bolt to 21 Nm;
- two steering column mounting bolts;
- instrument panel mounting bolt:
- electric lock and its bolt with left-hand thread;
- contact disk.
Note. Cap C, located on the fork nut, does not need to be replaced.
Contact Disk Features
Make sure the wheels are still set to straight ahead.
Check that the O mark of the contact disk is opposite the pointer.
Connect the connectors of the contact disk.
Install the upper and lower facing casings and steering wheel.
Attention! The steering wheel is equipped with splines. The wheel must be inserted all the way to prevent destruction of the hub.
The steering wheel bolt must be replaced every time it is disassembled and tightened to the required torque of 44 Nm.
Connect the wire blocks to the steering wheel and to the airbag.
Install the airbag.
After all operations have been completed, remove tool Dir. from the steering column. 1594.
Unlock the airbag computer and check for faults. Make sure 8 that the electric lock works correctly and that the column is blocked when the card is inserted into the reader in the 1st fixed position.
