Removal
- When replacing the right drive shaft seal of the JC5 gearbox, it is necessary to use the following special tools:
- punches for knocking out elastic pins Bvi. 31—01;
- a mandrel for installing the seal of the right axle gear B. Vi. 945;
- a mandrel for the seal of the right axle gear B. Vi. 1058.
- Remove the oil pan and drain the oil from the gearbox.
- Remove the right front wheel.
- Remove the upper bolts securing the shock absorber strut to the steering knuckle.
- Remove the ABS sensor.
- Using a V. Vi. 31-01 beard, knock out the elastic pin of the right drive shaft (fig. 6.8).
- Tilt the steering knuckle and remove the drive shaft from the splines of the axle gear, being careful not to damage the corrugated boots of the drive shaft.
- Remove the axle gear seal ring.
- Using a B. Vi. 31-01 punch for elastic pins and a small hammer, tap the lower part of the seal so that the seal can be torn off the seat belt.
- After moving the seal from its seat, use pliers to remove the seal, being careful not to damage the splines of the axle gear.
- The seal is installed using the mandrel B. Vi. 1058 and the protective cap of the mandrel B. Vi. 945 (fig. 6.33). Lubricate the protective cap before installing it on the splined part of the axle gear.
- Install the oil seal, then the sealing ring and apply MOLYKOTE BR2 grease to the splines of the axle gear.
- Position the drive shaft opposite the axle gear.
- While rocking the steering knuckle, place the inner joint shank of the drive shaft on the splines of the axle gear. In doing so, use the punch B. Vi. 31-01 to align the holes for the elastic pins. The entry chamfer of the hole in the axle gear facilitates the installation of the new elastic pin. Install new elastic pins and seal their ends with RHODORSEAL 5661 (fig. 6.13).
- Tighten the nuts and bolts to the specified torques.
- Fill the gearbox with transmission oil.
