It is impossible to adjust the idle speed on a diesel engine using a regular tachometer. A special device must be used to precisely control the idle speed. An experienced car enthusiast can change the speed by ear if the diesel engine is making a lot of noise or vibrating.
1. Loosen the lock nut on the adjusting bolt.
2. Adjust the idle speed: turning it out reduces the idle speed, turning it in increases the idle speed.
3. Never turn the adjusting bolt to the maximum number of revolutions!
4. The optimal idle speed is 825-875 rpm.
5. Tighten the lock nut.
