Depending on the current strength, the bimetal in the indicator heats up more or less, and, accordingly, the position of the arrow fixed on it changes. If the float is in the highest position when the tank is full, then there is no resistance in the sensor, the bimetal of the indicator heats up completely, and the arrow, respectively, shows that the tank is full.
With a decrease in the amount of fuel in the tank, the float drops, the resistance in the sensor increases, the bimetal heats up less, and the indicator needle shows a lower value.
Possible malfunctions
- Too high or too low readings: too high or too low voltage in the on-board network of the machine or the float is stuck.
- No indication: no electric current is supplied or the sensor or indicator is faulty.
Checking the fuel level
The fuel supply indicator lamp comes on as soon as the amount of fuel in the tank is less than 7 liters. The indicator is lit by a switch located in the fuel level sensor and actuated by a float. When turning sharply, the fuel supply warning light may come on temporarily, even if there is more than 7 liters of fuel left in the tank.
Troubleshooting
1. Check if the cause of incorrect readings of the fuel level sensor and other indicators is a malfunction of the generator voltage regulator.
2. In case of incorrect readings due to a jammed float, remove the fuel level sensor.
3. Check the fuel level sensor: remove the connecting wire.
4. Connect the extra wire to the purple wire connector and connect directly to ground.
5. If the needle of the fuel level indicator shows «full tank», This means that the fuel level sensor in the tank is faulty.
6. Check the indicator: remove the combined instrument panel and disconnect the connector.
7. Connect the tab for the black wire to the negative pole of the 12 V battery, the tab for the orange cable to the positive pole of the battery - if the arrow does not move, then the device is faulty.
8. If the arrow shows the maximum value, then the wiring is faulty.
