Note: Checking the fluid level requires specialized Renault equipment, so please contact your Renault dealer. Avoid getting dirt into the transmission.


1. Transmission fluid should be changed when the transmission is cold.

2. Place the car on an inspection pit, overpass, or jack it up, but in any case, horizontally.

3. Place a suitable container under the drain plug on the transmission pan, remove the plug, and allow the fluid to drain (see illustration).

4. Remove the battery as described in Section 5A.

5. Disconnect the wiring harness mounting brackets from the automatic transmission and battery bracket.

6. Separate the power steering hose mounting bracket from the battery bracket.

7. Jack up the automatic transmission so that the bracket can be unscrewed and removed.

8. Remove the front left wheel and remove the plastic cover to access the transmission pan mounting bolts.

9. Working under the car, unscrew (but don't take it off) rear bolt securing the rear engine mount to the bottom. Unscrew and remove the front bolt and move the hanger down.

10. Raise the automatic transmission as far as possible.



11. Unscrew the pan from the base of the transmission and remove the gasket.

12. Unscrew the filter and seal (see illustration).

13. Clean the tray and magnet from sediment. Inspect the gasket and plugs and replace them if necessary.

14. Install the new filter together with the seal and tighten the bolts.

15. Install the pan with the new gasket and tighten the bolts.

16. The rest of the procedure is carried out in reverse order, finally fill the transmission as described in Chapter 4.
