- let the engine cool down;
- set the heater switch to the maximum heating position;
- open the cap of the expansion tank;
- install a 6–7 l container under the lower radiator hose;
- remove the protective casing of the engine;
- loosen the clamp of the lower radiator hose, remove it from the radiator pipe and drain the coolant;
Attention! Do not allow liquid to come into contact with the skin, in case of contact, wash the liquid off the body with plenty of water.
- to speed up the draining of the liquid, unscrew the fitting for removing air in the area of the thermostat housing;
- after draining the fluid from the radiator hose, unscrew the drain plug on the cylinder block and drain the remaining fluid into a container;
- if the drained liquid has been in the system for less than two years, it can be reused after removing the sediment;
- attach a hose to the radiator and wrap a drain plug in the cylinder block.
In case of contamination, turbidity or loss of density (concentration) coolant, as well as its untimely replacement, the efficiency of the cooling system is reduced due to the deposition of rust and other unwanted precipitation in the channels. System performance can be restored by flushing the radiator and engine water jacket. These operations must be performed separately.
Flushing the radiator
Operating procedure:
- disconnect the upper and lower hoses from the radiator;
- insert a suitable hose connected to the water supply into the upper radiator connection and flush it until clean water flows from the lower connection. If necessary, apply a detergent additive, which can be purchased at an auto shop. You can also flush the radiator in the opposite direction, for which you will have to insert a hose with water into the lower pipe;
- connect the hoses to the radiator.
Engine flush
Operating procedure:
- wrap the drain plug in the cylinder block;
- disconnect the lower hose from the radiator;
- remove the thermostat from the housing (see below) and temporarily install the housing nozzle in its place;
- insert the hose connected to the water supply into the thermostat nozzle and flush the engine water jacket until clean water flows from the lower hose;
- install the thermostat, connect the lower hose to the radiator.
Filling the system with coolant
To fill the system with fluid, do the following:
- make sure that all pipes and hoses are securely fastened with clamps, the drain plug on the cylinder block is wrapped, the thermostat is installed in the housing;
- unscrew and remove the cover of the expansion tank;

- unscrew the bleed valve located on the thermostat housing (pic. 3.80);
- slowly fill the expansion tank with fluid up to the mark «MAX» on the wall of the tank;
- close the air bleeder when the liquid begins to flow out in a continuous stream;
- start the engine and warm it up for several minutes at a speed of 1000–1500 min–1, add liquid to the expansion tank, wrap the cap;
- set the engine speed to 2500 min–1 and leave to work until the electric fan is turned on;
- stop the engine and after 30 minutes add fluid, if necessary, to the level «MAX»;
- Install the engine guard.
