General information
The ESPACE can be equipped with xenon headlights for low beam headlights.
In accordance with European standards, these cars are required to be equipped with a system for automatically adjusting the headlight angle depending on the vehicle's ride height and the presence of headlight washers.
Attention. It is prohibited to install headlights equipped with xenon lamps on models not designed for such systems.
Xenon lamps do not have a filament. The light from these lamps is generated by two electrodes enclosed in a quartz flask containing compressed gas. The electronic or ballast module built into the headlight is powered by the car battery and generates first the 20,000 V voltage needed to initiate the discharge, and then the 85 V AC voltage used to maintain operation. The automatic headlight leveling system must support (when changing the vehicle load) constant angle of inclination of the light beam by comparison with the original value adjusted at the factory or during warranty service.
The time it takes to perform this correction is not always the same
- 2 min at low amplitudes.
- 30 s for large changes in load If problems arise, a warning light on the instrument panel lights up and the system goes into backup mode when the low beam headlights are on. When the ignition is turned off, the correction system directs the headlights downwards.
In the event of a system malfunction, the low beam headlights are set to the lowest position.
The system includes:
- -two special headlights, including a classic lamp for side lights, a lamp for high beam headlights type H7, a gas discharge lamp for low beam type D2S located behind the lens (A, fig. 15.26);
- the electronic unit (ballast), built into the headlights (D, fig. 15.27);
- the electronic unit (E, fig. 15.28), which controls the automatic correction of headlight leveling;
- two height sensors (F. fig. 15.29, 15.30), located under the car;
- two actuators for height adjustment (G, fig. 15.27), designed for 21 positions;
- warning lamp for a malfunction of the automatic headlight leveling system. located on the instrument panel.
When the ignition is turned on, the warning lamp lights up for 3 seconds, then turns off, blinks if the diagnostic tool is in dialogue with the electronic unit and lights up continuously if there are problems in the correction system.

Removal
- Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery.
- Disconnect the connectors on the headlight and turn indicators.
Note. Removing the radiator trim and direction indicators is done in the same way.
- Remove the two headlight washer mounting bolts (pic. 15.31).
- Unscrew the two nuts and remove the headlight unit.

Installation
- Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
- After installing the headlights, it is necessary to initialize the system and adjust them.
