If it does not open as a result of a collision, this does not mean that the system is faulty. Most likely, the vehicle did not slow down enough to activate the airbag. Driver and front passenger airbags are designed to inflate during frontal and near-frontal collisions. Front airbags generally do not inflate in the event of a rollover, side or rear collision, or in a frontal collision of insufficient severity.
The driver's airbag is located in the center of the steering wheel.
The front passenger airbag is located at the top of the instrument panel.
The airbag control unit is located under the driver's seat. The warning lamp in the instrument cluster diagnoses the security system and signals a malfunction.
Note.
- The airbags are activated when the ignition is turned on.
- A sticker informs you about the presence of airbags.
Security measures
For the most effective protection, the seat back should be in an upright position when the vehicle is in motion. Always sit back and adjust the seat belt properly. The diagonal portion of the seat belt should extend approximately across the middle of the shoulder and should never go around the neck. In this case, the belt should fit snugly against the chest. The lap belt should always fit snugly across your thighs, not your stomach.
Infants and small children should not be transported on the knees or hands, as even a strong person will not be able to withstand the inertial forces that arise in the event of an accident or sudden braking of the vehicle.
In a rollover crash, a passenger not wearing a seat belt will suffer more serious injuries than a passenger wearing a seat belt.
Notes. Before removing any airbag, the airbag control unit must be locked using a portable XR 25 device.
Precautions.
When performing any work on the vehicle. equipped with an air bag, the following precautions must be observed when moving and storing the air bag:
- do not disconnect the terminals from the battery while the engine is running;
- When performing any work on the security system or performing electric welding on the vehicle, deactivate the security system;
- If the security system warning light is on, you must immediately contact a service station;
- transport the airbag separately, bag side up;
- When transporting, do not place your hands on the airbag.
- Do not drop the airbag or allow it to come into contact with water, grease, etc. If dents, cracks, deformation or corrosion are found, replace the cushion;
- do not disassemble the airbag;
- do not allow solvents or cleaning agents to come into contact with the airbag;
- Do not expose the airbag to temperatures above 100°C;
- do not allow the airbag to come into contact with an open flame;
- Do not install an airbag with defects or damage on a vehicle;
- never attempt to measure airbag circuit resistance (charge) even with a special tester. If the resistance is measured by the tester, sudden deployment of the airbag may occur, which is very dangerous;
- Dispose of an uninflated airbag only as directed.
Attention. The service life of an airbag should not exceed 15 years from the date of its manufacture.
