The front seat belt pretensioner is activated in conjunction with the front airbags. This creates additional tension on the seat belt, which holds occupants in place and prevents them from moving forward. These seat belts are used in the same way as regular seat belts.

Pretensioners must only be replaced as a set.

Security measures



Do not use an ohmmeter to test the seat belt pretensioner. Never drop the seat belt pretensioner.

Removal


  • Before removing the seat belt pretensioner, block all ignition circuits of the pyrotechnic elements as follows:

- connect the XR25 portable diagnostic device to the vehicle;

- turn on the ignition;

- set the ISO switch to position S8 and enter the code D49;

- using the XR25 tool, lock the control unit and enter command G 80*. When this function is activated, all ignition lines are inhibited, the airbag warning lamp in the instrument cluster and the left barograph 14 of the XR25 tool light up (new control units are supplied in a locked state).

- Wait two seconds for the control unit to automatically discharge.

- turn off the ignition.
  • Remove the screw securing the seat belt pretensioner protection kit.
  • Disconnect the connector.
  • Loosen the seat belt pretensioner mounting bolt and remove it.

Installation


  • Install the seat belt pretensioner and secure it with the bolt, tightening it to the specified torque.
  • Connect the connector
  • Install the seat belt pretensioner protection kit and secure it with the screw, tightening it to the specified torque.
  • Turn on the ignition.
  • Check using the XR25 tool for faults in the security system. If everything is OK, unlock the computer using command G 81* Check that the left barograph 14 of the XR25 tool does not light up.
