Careless handling of the IEZ ignition system can be life threatening. The ignition module generates voltage up to 30,000 V with high current. If the ignition is on, a high voltage pulse may hit the spark plug when jolted.
In addition, damage can be caused by improper handling of the elements of the ignition system. That's why:
- All electrical wires and instrumentation can only be connected or disconnected with the ignition off.
- If the engine is to be cranked by the starter without starting, the ignition must be disabled, see next section.
- When washing the engine, the engine must not be running and the ignition must be switched off.
- To facilitate starting with a dead battery, the boost charger may be connected for no more than one minute and the voltage should not exceed 16.5 V.
- If there is an existing or suspected defect in the ignition system, before towing the vehicle, disconnect the low voltage connector from the ignition coil or the multi-pin connector from the control device.
- When electric welding in a car, disconnect both wires from the battery.
