Right: The speedometer cable in the gearbox is easily accessible from above, only with the basic equipment. Release the safety clip (arrow) by pressing. When replacing the speedometer cable, check the rubber tip for breakdown.
Some variants of the Renault 19 have an additional oil level indicator in the combined instrument panel.
- The oil level is monitored (thermally conductive) a measuring rod screwed into the engine housing so that its sensor is immersed in the oil pan.
- When the ignition is turned on, an electric current flows through the wire in the test probe, which is measured by a small electronic device behind the indicator. Depending on how deep the measuring rod is immersed in the oil, the control device processes a certain amount of voltage and gives the corresponding oil level value on the indicator.
- If the engine is running, the oil pressure sensor interrupts the flow «measuring» electrical current to the control unit and the oil level is no longer recorded.
Troubleshooting
1. Check the oil level sensor: disconnect the contact connection from the sensor and measure the resistance between the sensor contacts. If the sensor is OK, then the resistance should be between 5 and 30 ohms.
2. Check the oil level indicator: remove the combined instrument panel and disconnect the contact.
3. Connect plus and minus (they are labeled) to the battery - if the arrow does not move, then the indicator is faulty.
