Checking the tightness of the wheel bolts
Remove the wheel covers and loosen the wheel bolts. Then, using a torque wrench, tighten the bolts to the specified torque.
Checking the tightness of connections and the condition of pipelines and hoses
The increased temperature in the engine compartment has a negative effect on the condition of rubber and polymer hoses and leads to their intensive aging. That's why it's important to check your hoses regularly for cracks, loose clamps, hardened material, and signs of leaks.
Checking vacuum hoses
Vacuum hoses are used in emission control systems. Different systems use hoses with different cross-sections, wall thicknesses, heat resistance and compression resistance. When replacing hoses, install only their equivalents.
When removing more than one hose, label the fittings and hoses to ensure the system is properly reassembled when they are installed.
Check vacuum hoses by listening with a stethoscope (without membrane) surfaces of hoses and their connections with systems for the presence of a characteristic hissing sound of air being sucked in.
Attention! Start checking the power supply system by depressurizing it. Checking hoses and pipelines associated with fuel leakage requires increased fire safety measures. Wash off any fuel that has come into contact with the skin with plenty of soapy water.
Checking fuel hoses
Check fuel hoses for signs of wear and tear. Pay special attention to the bends and areas in front of the fuel filter fittings.
Check the condition of the band-type clamps on the fittings of the power system elements and hoses.
When replacing the elements of the power system, replace the band clamps with screw-type clamps.
Inspection of metal pipelines
Check pipelines in the following order:
- carefully check the tubes for dents, twists and cracks;
- when replacing, use only seamless, steel tubing. The copper and aluminum tubes are not strong enough to withstand the vibrations caused by the engine;
- check the pipelines of the brake system at the points of their connection with the master cylinder and the hydraulic unit of the ABS system for cracks or loose union connections;
- Any sign of a brake fluid leak requires an immediate and thorough inspection of the entire brake system.
Checking the rubber hoses of the cooling and heating system
Carefully inspect the hoses suitable for the radiator. Cracks in hoses become more visible when the hose is compressed. Hose defects are often found at the clamp site. In places where the coolant leaks, a characteristic white or brown crystalline coating is observed.
Attention! Air conditioner hoses are disconnected only in the conditions of a specialized enterprise.
