Remove the brake drums as described in the section "Brake system".
Inspect the drums for excessive wear, scratches, and cracks. The brake shoes should not be oiled or excessively worn. Replace all shoes if necessary.
Check for leaks from the brake cylinders and replace the mud caps if necessary.
