When braking a car in an emergency, it is necessary to simultaneously achieve two goals: reducing the braking distance and maintaining controllability and stability of the car. The anti-lock braking system (ABS) is designed to reduce the probability of wheel locking and increase the active safety of the car.
Increased driving safety is achieved by the fact that ABS prevents the wheels from locking when braking, even if the driver presses the brake pedal too hard. This allows the driver to control the direction of the car using the steering wheel. During emergency braking, the driver can go around the obstacle and avoid a collision. In addition, ABS reduces the braking distance when one or more wheels hit areas of the road surface with low traction (wet, slippery or uneven road surfaces).
Although the anti-lock braking system allows you to control your vehicle confidently while braking, you must monitor the road surface and consider the driving conditions when choosing your speed. You should follow the usual rules of safe driving, such as maintaining a safe distance from the vehicle in front. The fact that your vehicle can provide high driving safety does not mean that you can take unnecessary risks.
If one of the ABS units is faulty, a warning light on the dashboard will signal this. In this case, braking will occur as if your car does not have an anti-lock system.
When ABS is turned on, you will feel some pulsation of force on the brake pedal. These sensations will tell you that the grip of the wheels on the road has reached its limit and it is necessary to adjust the driving style in accordance with the road conditions.
Attention! The change in the braking torque of the wheels, automatically carried out by the anti-lock system, does not depend on the force you apply to the brake pedal. In case of emergency braking, press the brake pedal with constant force, without releasing it.
