Since January 1, 2000, Amendment No.1 to GOST 17.2.2.03–87 "Environmental Protection. Atmosphere. Standards and Methods for Measuring the Content of Carbon Monoxide and Hydrocarbons in Exhaust Gases of Vehicles with Gasoline Engines" (Resolution of the State Standard of the Russian Federation No.33 of February 9, 1999) has been in effect in the Russian Federation.

The content of CO and CH in the exhaust gases of vehicles with a mileage of up to 3000 km is regulated by the technological standards of the manufacturing companies.

For vehicles not equipped with a catalytic converter, the maximum permissible content of CO and CH in exhaust gases is indicated in Table 1* (table 16.1).

For vehicles equipped with a catalytic converter, the maximum permissible content of carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons in exhaust gases is given in Table 2* (table 16.2).

* Tables are given with abbreviations.

The rotation speed value is set by the manufacturer in the technical specifications and operating instructions. If it is not set, then the following is accepted:

nmin=(800±50) min⁻¹, npov=(3000±100) min⁻¹.

In accordance with the amended version of paragraph 1.3 of GOST, if the standards specified in Tables 16.1 and 16.2 are exceeded, the vehicle is considered technically faulty and cannot be used until this fault is corrected.
