Some cars have an ixhxuw parking assist system designed to alert the driver to the presence of obstacles behind the car (bollard, another car, etc.) when driving in reverse.
Functioning
The system includes:
- four infrared sensors built into the rear bumper;
- standalone computer (with diagnostic function);
- warning sound.
The system is automatically activated when reverse gear is engaged (activation of the system is accompanied by a short beep). Ultrasonic sensors built into the rear bumper measure the distance between the vehicle and a suspected obstacle.
The frequency of the beep varies depending on the distance, the audible alarm is activated if the distance between the obstacle and the bumper is approximately 150 cm. At first it is an intermittent signal, which becomes continuous when the distance decreases to 25 cm.
Note. The ultrasonic transducers must be clean for the system to function properly.
If the system detects a malfunction, it will learn an intermittent signal for about five seconds.
In bad weather or when bicycle carriers are used, obstacle recognition by the sensors is problematic.
