The Renault card reader contains two switches to ensure the vehicle's operation:
- a switch that is activated when the card is inserted into the middle position, in which the supply voltage is supplied to the auxiliary equipment (the "+" of the power consumers).
- a switch that is activated when the card is inserted all the way into the reader after the ignition switch).
Note: The Renault card is blocked in the reader when the UEC receives the "engine running" signal from the injection ECU. It is unlocked when the engine is stopped.
On models with automatic transmission, it is possible to deactivate the Renault card lock by setting the configuration.
Renault card reader is used:
- to receive radio signals for locking and unlocking opening elements;
- as a transponder antenna for the engine start blocking function and Renault card recognition.

Reader illumination
When the doors are unlocked, the reader illumination lights up for approximately 30 seconds.
If the reader lights up when you insert a Renault card, this means that the card code matches the code stored in the UEC.
If the reader starts to flash rapidly (with the same frequency as the electronic engine immobilizer system warning light) after the Renault card is inserted into the reader, this means that the code is not recognized by the UEC.
The reader also lights up when the engine is stopped.
If the door opens (engine stopped) if the Renault card is not removed from the reader, the reader's backlight lamp starts to flash, warning you that the card has been forgotten.
Note: If the backlight lamp is faulty, the reader must be replaced.
ATTENTION: The reader is not encodeable.
