Steering column intermediate shaft:
1 — a bolt of terminal connection of a plug of the cardan hinge of a steering shaft;
2 - intermediate shaft;
3 — a bolt of fastening of an intermediate shaft to a steering column.
Turn away a bolt of connection of the cardan hinge of a steering shaft. Mark the position of the intermediate shaft (2) on the steering column.
Remove the bolt (3) mountings of the intermediate shaft from the side of the steering column.
Disconnect the universal joint yoke from the steering gear.
Remove the intermediate shaft by moving it in the direction of the arrow.
Note. Replace the intermediate shaft mounting bolt on the steering column side.
Install the intermediate shaft to the steering column without changing its position by more than one tooth from its original position. Check the position of the intermediate shaft on the steering column side.
Pre-tighten the intermediate shaft bolt on the steering column side.
Pull the intermediate shaft towards you to make sure that the bolt is on the shaft journal.
Attach the universal joint yoke to the steering gear.
Make sure the universal joint yoke is installed in the correct position on the steering gear close to the gear.
Preliminarily tighten the bolt of the terminal connection of the steering shaft universal joint yoke. Torque tighten:
- intermediate shaft bolt on steering column side 31 Nm;
- Steering shaft universal joint yoke bolt 62 Nm.
Checking the intermediate shaft
These cars are equipped with a non-separable unit: telescopic shaft - steering shaft - steering column. If the steering shaft yoke terminal bolt cannot be tightened, or after a collision, check that the length of the telescopic shaft is correct.
Make sure: L = 313.90 +/-1mm.
If the intermediate shaft length is not correct, replace the entire steering column assembly.
Attention. Do not pull on the telescopic shaft (after impact).
