Tightening torques, Nm
- Steering wheel bolt 45.
- Bolt of fastening of a fork of the cardan hinge of a steering shaft 25.
- Steering column nuts 20.
Removing
1. Disconnect the wires from the battery.
2. Set the steer wheels to drive straight ahead.
3. Remove a steering wheel as follows.
4.1. Option without airbag:
- remove the plastic steering wheel cover;
- remove the steering wheel bolt (the bolt must be replaced with a new one when installing);
- remove the steering wheel after marking its position.
4.2. Airbag option:
Attention! Work with pyrotechnic devices (airbags and seat belt pretensioners) not near heat sources or open flames, as they may work.
Attention! Each time the steering wheel is removed, the airbag connector D must be disconnected. The airbag is equipped with a connector that connects the circuit to ground to prevent accidental deployment of the airbag.
- disconnect the wires from the battery;
- remove the driver's airbag attached to the bottom of the steering wheel with two Torx T3O bolts (tightening torque 5 Nm), and disconnect connector D;
- remove the horn switch connector (in the presence of);
- remove the steering wheel bolt (the bolt must be replaced with a new one when installing);
- set the steered wheels to the straight ahead position;
- remove the steering wheel.
5. Disconnect the connector of the helical current-carrying device.
6. Mark the position of the current-transmitting device:
- or by setting the steered wheels to the straight ahead position so that the wire on the reel takes the middle position;
- or by blocking the coil of the current-transmitting device with electrical tape.
In case of replacement of the helical current-transmitting device, the new device is delivered installed in the middle position, preserved by an adhesive sticker, which is torn off at the first rotation of the steering wheel (installed with the wheels in the straight ahead position).
7. Remove both steering column covers (three mounting bolts).
8. Remove the steering column switch (one mounting bolt).
9. Disconnect connectors.
10. Remove the instrument panel visor (six bolts).
11. Remove four bolts of fastening of a combination of devices and disconnect a socket.
12. Remove the lower decorative cover of the hatch of the panel of devices.
13. Turn away bolts of fastening of the panel of devices on a steering column.
14. From the bottom of the car, bite the rubber boot clamp and push it back towards the bulkhead.
15. Turn away a bolt of fastening of a plug of the cardan hinge of a steering shaft.
16. Turn away two bolts and two nuts of fastening of a steering column.
Remove:
- steering column after disconnecting the ignition switch;
- cover from the bulkhead 1 and remove it together with the steering column.
Installation
1. Install the steering column.
2. Install the cover on the bulkhead, tying the cover valves and the cardan joint together with a cord.
3. Installation is made in an order, the return to removal.
4. Check up correctness of connection of sockets of a combination of devices.
5. Features of vehicles with a driver's airbag.
5.1. Set the steering wheels in the direction of straight ahead (before installation, check that the helical current-carrying device is locked).
5.2. If the current transfer device is not blocked:
- turn the top part of the rotary contact counterclockwise. When approaching the extreme position shown in Figure 7.20, it will become more difficult to turn (no need to put in too much effort);
- slightly turn the top of the part clockwise and check that the rotary contact is in the position shown in fig. 7.21;
- turn the part clockwise again, making two full turns, and check that the rotary contact is then in the position described above.
5.3. Replace the steering wheel and replace the adhesive-coated bolt with a tightening torque of 45 Nm.
5.4. Connect the airbag connector and secure it to the steering wheel (tightening torque 5 Nm).
Attention! Before installing the driver's airbag, check that it is working properly as follows:
- check the inclusion of the airbag warning light in the instrument cluster when the ignition is switched on;
- connect the inert igniter to the driver's airbag connector and check that the warning light in the instrument cluster goes out;
- switch off the ignition, connect the driver's airbag instead of the inert igniter and attach the airbag to the steering wheel hub;
- turn on the ignition. Make sure that when the ignition is switched on, the signal lamp in the instrument cluster illuminates for three seconds and then goes out and remains off.
If the warning light does not work as described above, check the airbag using the XRBAG tool (Ele. 1288)
Attention! If these instructions are not followed exactly, the airbag will not work properly and may even not work in time.
