Special tool required
- T.Av. 476 Ball joint puller.
- Mot. 453-01 Hose clamp.
Tightening torques, Nm
- Wheel mounting bolts 90.
- Steering joint fastening nut 37.
- Steering gear mounting bolts 50.
- Steering shaft cardan joint fork mounting bolt 25.
- Engine support thrust mounting bolt 65.
Removal
1. Place the vehicle on a two-post lift.
2. Remove the front wheels.
3. Fit clamp Mot. 453-01 to all pipes coming from the power steering reservoir.
Caution! Do not pinch high pressure tubes.
4. For F8Q engine remove (from above):
- battery;
- battery bases;
- high and low pressure pipes from the hydraulic distributor.
5. Cut the clamp securing the rubber boot and move it towards the front shield.
6. Disconnect the steering joints using the T.Av 476 puller.
7. Loosen the eccentric bolt securing the steering shaft cardan joint fork.
8. Disconnect the oxygen sensor.
9. Remove the exhaust pipe.
10. Unscrew the bolt (from the engine side) engine support thrust mounts and rotate the power unit forward.
11. Insert the position-fixing block.
11. Disconnect the high and low pressure pipes from the steering gear (take measures to collect the working fluid).
12. Unscrew the nut on the tube mounting bracket.
13. Remove the two nuts securing the heat shield above the right steering gear support.
14. Remove the steering gear mounting nuts and remove it from the timing belt side of the engine.
Note:
- do not remove the tubes between the hydraulic distributor and the power cylinder;
- install plugs into the openings on the steering gear to prevent foreign particles from getting inside.
Installation
1. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
2. Observe the required tightening torques.
3. Fill the amplifier circuit with working fluid.
4. Turn the steering wheels left or right until they stop (the engine is not working), to distribute the oil along the contour.
5. Repeat this operation with the engine running and restore the normal working fluid level.
6. If installing a new steering gear, install the outer tie rod ends in the position noted when removing the steering gear:
- loosen the tightening of the bolt securing the steering rod adjusting sleeve and the outer end of the steering rod, holding the inner joint of the steering rod from turning with a wrench;
- mark or count the number of turns of the adjusting sleeve so that symmetry with the opposite steering rod can be restored during installation.
3. Check for symmetry.
