Required special tool
- T. Av. 476 Ball joint puller.
- Dir. 1305-01 Device for replacing the inner joint of the steering rod.
- Dir. 1306 Rail locking tool.
Tightening torques, Nm
- Wheel bolts 90.
- Nut of fastening of the steering hinge 37.
- Bolt of fastening of the adjusting coupling of steering draft 17.
- Tie rod inner joint 50.
Removing
1. Place the vehicle on a two post lift.
2. Disconnect the steering joint using the puller T.Av 476.
3. Loosen the bolt of fastening of the adjusting coupling of the steering rod and the outer tip of the steering rod, holding the inner joint of the steering rod with the wrench.
4. Mark or count the number of turns of the adjusting clutch so that the installation can restore symmetry with the opposite steering rod.
5. Remove the plastic collar of the boot and remove the boot.
6. Turn the steered wheels so that the rack teeth are open on the hydraulic distributor side.
7. Install tool Dir. 1306 to lock the rack.
8. In this position, remove the tie rod inner joint using tool Dir. 1305-01.
Installation
Attention! Details 2 (pic. 7.2) are subject to periodic replacement.
1. Install a thrust washer together with lock washer 2 on rail 3.
2. Install a new tie rod inner joint 1 on rack 3 with the threads lightly lubricated with LOCTITE FREN-BLOCK, but in such a way that the vent hole is not clogged with it.
3. Before final tightening of the inner joint with tool Dir. 1305-01 check that the tabs of the lock washer 2 are aligned with the flats B on the rail.
4. Tighten the inner joint to the required torque.
5. Center the steering rack to equalize the air volumes in the boots.
6. Install the new cover and secure it with a new clamp (after greasing the bearing surface of the boot on the inner hinge).
Attention! Each time the inner tie rod joint is replaced, the boot must be replaced.
Examination
Gently press down on the case to check the expansion of the other case, which will indicate that there is normal air circulation between the cases.
