Note. Brake discs cannot be sanded. In case of significant wear or deep scratches, the discs must be replaced.
When replacing the brake discs, also replace the brake pads.
Place the car on a lift.
Remove wheels.
Release the cables (1) parking brake actuator.
Note the route of the installation cable.
Loosen the mounting bolts (1) guide pins (2).
Install micrometer (1) for measuring the thickness of the brake disc. Measure the thickness of the brake disc in order at the four points shown in the figure along the circumference (through 90°).
Standard rear brake disc thickness: 8mm (all engines). If the thickness is less than specified, replace the discs.
Remove the support.
Hang the caliper to the body. Remove the brake pads.
Loosen the bolts of the guide pads.
Remove:
- pad guides;
- hub caps.
Loosen the hub nuts.
Remove «brake discs integral with wheel hubs».
Examination
Check for corrosion, wear and damage on the inner walls of the cylinder. Replace cylinder body if necessary. Minor imperfections caused by corrosion or foreign particles can be removed by sanding the surface with fine emery cloth. Replace cylinder body if necessary. Check for wear, cracks and damage. If necessary, replace the corresponding component. Check for corrosion, wear and damage on the piston surface. If necessary, replace the corresponding component. Check for corrosion, wear and damage on the guide pin and guide pin boot. If necessary, replace the corresponding component. Check for uneven wear, cracks and severe damage to the surface of the brake disc.
Installation
Clean the shoe guides and caliper.
Note. Coat the guide shoe and guide pin bolts with FRENBLOC before installation (or its equivalent).
Move the piston Calipers inside the cylinder until it stops using the tool (Fre. 1190-01). Installation is made in an order, the return to removal.
Torque tighten:
- hub nuts (standard chassis) (220 Nm);
- hub nuts (long chassis) (280 Nm);
- guide shoe bolts (105 Nm);
- guide pin bolts (36 Nm).
Install cables (1) parking brake actuator.
Make sure the parking brake cable stoppers are correctly inserted into their sockets.
Note. Press the brake pedal several times to set the pistons to the working position.
Check the brake fluid level.
Pull the parking brake lever several times to activate the parking brake system and the automatic brake pad wear compensation device. Install wheels.
