Removal
Cars of the 1st and 2nd stages of production
1. Open the hood and disconnect the ground wire from the battery.
2. Disconnect the return spring and remove the hood lock cable.
3. Unscrew the two bolts and remove the lock from the upper cross member of the body.
4. Working from inside the car, remove the trim panels to gain better access to the door lock handle.
5. Remove the handle by unscrewing the screw that secures it.
6. Tie a long rope or cord to the end of the cable, working from the engine compartment.
7. Release the cable from its mounting clamps in the engine compartment so that you can push it into the passenger compartment using the rope. Untie the rope and leave it in place.
Cars of the 3rd stage of production
8. Open the hood and disconnect the ground wire from the battery.
9. Remove the radiator grille.
10. Disconnect the return spring and unscrew the screws (one on each side), securing two locks to the body cross member.
11. Turn the locks to the left and remove them. Disconnect the rod and the control cable of the left lock.
12. Working from inside the car, remove the 5 screws and remove the steering column cover.
13. Loosen the bolt and remove the cable handle from the steering column.
14. Tie a long rope or cord to the end of the cable. 15. Release the cable from its fastening elements in the engine compartment so that you can pull it into the passenger compartment. Pull the cable into the passenger compartment, untie the rope and leave it in place: you will need it for subsequent assembly.

Installation
All cars
16. Tie a rope to the end of the new cable, pull the cable into the engine compartment and install the fasteners in place. Further installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
