To recognize this, a control unit is located under the center console, which starts working when the ignition is turned on. The control unit contains two electromechanical pulse sensors. When hitting an obstacle, the most sensitive of the two sensors actuates both tensioners simultaneously. If the impact was stronger, then the second sensor actuates the airbag inflator in the steering wheel.
Removing the emergency seat belt tensioner
1. Disconnect the ground wire from the battery and wait 1 minute for the control device capacitors to discharge.
2. Remove the seat sled trim from the seat belt side (2 screws).
3. Disconnect the emergency seat belt tensioner connector under the seat.
4. Remove the emergency tensioner from the seat sled (one bolt).
5. When installing, pay attention to the correct position of the power wire under the seat.
6. Check, for safety reasons, the correct connection of the emergency tensioner in the workshop with the XR BAG tool (EL. 1288).
Note. Recommendation: even if the battery is disconnected and there is no power in the control unit, the emergency belt tensioners can be activated. Therefore, wait until the capacitors integrated in the control unit have completely discharged. This takes about 5 minutes. After the emergency seat belt tensioners have been deployed, the control unit must be replaced. Therefore, in case of malfunctions, it is best to contact a Renault workshop.
