The electronic stability control system uses the signal from the steering angle sensor to calculate the trajectory chosen by the driver. This information is regarded as a driver's command.
The steering wheel angle sensor is not just a sensor, it can be fully considered as a control unit. It includes two processors, which, thanks to their information redundancy capabilities, ensure the reliable transmission of information to a separate multiplex CAN.
The sensor is located on the steering column, and is attached to the contact disk assembly.
Put the wheels of the car in position for driving straight ahead.
Removing the sensor
Before doing any work on the airbag systems, lock the computer using the diagnostic tools. This will unlock the electric steering column lock.
Remove:
- airbag:
- pads of airbag wires; steering wheel wiring pads; steering wheel bolt.
- two bolts for fastening the facing casing;
- upper facing casing with a decorative overlay of the instrument panel panel.
Remove the lower facing casing.
Disconnect the wiring harness from the steering wheel angle sensor.
Lift the top two clamps at the same time, and then the bottom two, while slightly rocking the transducer body.
Remove the steering angle sensor.
Sensor installation
If the sensor is new, remove the cotter pin and keep the yellow marker visible in the center of the window.
Center the sensor on the guides. Fix 4 clips.
Installation is made in an order, the return to removal.
Attention! The steering wheel splines have bonded sections to ensure proper installation. The steering wheel must fit freely into the splines of the hub. Be careful not to damage them.
The steering wheel bolt must be replaced every time it is disassembled and tightened to the required torque of 44 Nm.
