Checking the tightness of the cooling system (Renault Espace III)

  • Remove the expansion tank cap.
  • Install the MS 554-01 adapter instead of the expansion tank cap.
  • Connect the MS 554-07 device to it.
  • Warm up the engine and turn it off.
  • Use the pump of the device to create pressure in the cooling system.
  • Bring the pressure to a value 0.1 bar less than the opening pressure of the safety valve in the expansion tank cap.
  • Make sure that the pressure in the cooling system is maintained for 2 minutes.
  • To reduce the pressure in the cooling system, gradually unscrew the MS 554-07 tool, then remove the MS 554-01 adapter and install the expansion tank cap with a new gasket.

Warning: Do not remove the expansion tank cap when the engine is hot, as escaping steam can cause severe burns. Cover the expansion tank cap with a thick rag and slowly unscrew the cap until the escaping steam hisses. After the steam stops escaping, slowly unscrew and remove the cap from the expansion tank.
