- Check and, if necessary, adjust the tension of the generator drive belt.
- Connect a voltmeter to the battery terminals.
- While observing the voltmeter reading, start the engine. During starter operation, the voltage may drop to 9 V.
- Increase the engine speed to 4000 min-1, and the voltage should increase to 13.7 - 14.8 V. This indicates normal operation of the generator and voltage regulator.
- At an engine speed of 4000 min-1 turn on the high beam headlights or other powerful consumers of electricity, and the voltage drop should be no more than 0.4 V.
- In case of significant voltage deviations during testing, the generator must be checked in a specialized workshop.
