- Check and adjust the alternator drive belt tension if necessary.
- Connect a voltmeter to the battery terminals.
- While watching the voltmeter readings, start the engine. In starter mode, the voltage may drop to 9 V.
- Increase the engine speed to 4000 min⁻¹, and the voltage should increase to 13.7 - 14.8 V. This indicates normal operation of the generator and voltage regulator.
- At an engine speed of 4000 min⁻¹, turn on the high beam headlights or other powerful power consumers, while the voltage drop should not exceed 0.4 V.
- In case of significant voltage deviations during testing, the generator must be checked in a specialized workshop.
