The voltage regulator is installed in the generator brush holder housing. Carbon brushes cannot be changed separately. Generator carbon brushes wear out quite slowly. They are enough for a car to travel approximately 120,000 km. It is recommended to change the brushes a little earlier.

Removal

The brushes can be removed without dismantling the generator.

1. Disconnect the negative (-) terminal from the battery.

Attention! This will delete the recorded information from some devices, and the security code from the radio receiver, as well as all automatic settings for radio stations. Therefore, before disconnecting the battery, read the provisions of Chapter "Battery - removal and installation".

2. Unscrew the two bolts 1 securing the generator and remove the voltage regulator (see illustration).

3. Replace carbon brushes if their length is 5 mm or less (see illustration).

4. Check the condition of the generator armature contact rings; if necessary, carefully bore and polish them.

Installation

5. Insert the new voltage regulator into place along with the mounting cover and secure it.

6. Remove the mounting cover by pulling it upward.

7. Put the protective cap on the regulator and secure it with M4 and M5 bolts. The tightening torque for the M4 bolt is 2 Nm, for the M5 bolt - 4 Nm.

8. Connect the negative (-) wire terminal to the battery terminal.

9. Set the clock and program the radio to receive radio stations.
