The battery in SCENIC cars is located under the front passenger seat. In other models, the battery is located under the fairing grille on the right side of the car.
Attention! When disconnecting the battery cable terminals, data is deleted from the memory of the following units and devices:
- the so-called "acquired" data about the engine operation during the operation preceding the disconnection of the battery are deleted from the injection system control unit. This is, for example, the individual setting of the idle speed. After connecting the battery, some malfunctions in the engine operation may be observed for a short time (jerking, misfiring when accelerating or rough running);
- the protective code preventing unauthorized use of the receiver is removed from the radio receiver, as well as the radio station settings. If the code is unknown, the radio receiver can only be put into operation by seeking assistance from a representative of the manufacturer.
To prevent the aforementioned data from being deleted, workshops use a so-called "memory" cable. This cable is powered by a 9V battery and is connected to the cigarette lighter. The cable can be purchased at a car store or made by yourself.
SCENIC cars. Due to the fact that the battery is located in the passenger compartment under the passenger seat, there is a positive terminal from the battery in the engine compartment. This terminal is located on the right side of the engine compartment in front of the upper shock absorber support mount on the mudguard (see arrow in illustration 13.0).

The battery is connected to the terminal by a wire and the power supply for the entire on-board network is provided from this terminal. If it is necessary to disconnect the battery during work, this must be done at the terminal, not at the battery. The battery terminal is used for charging it without removing it or when starting the engine from an auxiliary battery.
Removal
Attention! Before disconnecting the battery, make sure that all on-board electrical system consumers are switched off.
All cars except SCENIC
1. Open the hood.
2. Remove the right side A of the fairing grille (see illustration). To do this, unscrew the bolts B, release the grille in the center C, and then remove it by lifting the disconnected end.

3. Disconnect the power cable terminals from the battery terminals. First, disconnect terminal 1 of the ground (-) cable with the clamping nut painted green, and then terminal 2 of the positive potential with the clamping nut painted red (see illustration).

4. Unscrew nut A, remove the clamp and battery (see illustration 13.3).
SCENIC cars
The battery in SCENIC vehicles is located under the front passenger seat.
5. Press both levers A and lift the front of the passenger seat (see illustration).

6. Loosen the handles B and lift the seat movement handle up (see illustration 13.5).
7. Fold the passenger seat back.
8. Turn the C fasteners 1/4 turn to the left with a screwdriver (see illustration).

9. Lift cover 1 and remove it (see illustration 13.8).
10. Unscrew the two battery mounting nuts, disconnect the holders and remove the battery.
Installation
Attention! When replacing the battery with a new original, it should be replaced with the same type. This is especially true for SCENIC cars.
11. Clean the battery terminals with a brass wire brush.
12. Place the battery in place and secure it with the clamp or holders.
Attention! Before connecting the battery, make sure that all on-board electrical system consumers are switched off. Otherwise, sparking and damage to electrical equipment may occur. Check the contacts and the fit of the ground (-) wires. High transition currents, especially when starting the engine, lead to overloads of electronic control units and may cause their damage.
13. First connect the positive (+) potential wire terminal to the positive pole, and then the ground (-) wire terminal.
Warning! An incorrectly connected battery can cause serious damage to the generator and the electrical system as a whole. To prevent corrosion of the battery terminals, lubricate the terminals with special grease or petroleum jelly.
All models except SCENIC cars
14. Replace the fairing grille and secure it.
SCENIC cars
15. Replace the battery cover and secure it. The cover fastening leashes are fixed in position F.
16. Return the seat to its normal position and tighten the bolts securing the seat travel trailing arm.
17. Make sure that levers A (see illustration 13.5) fixed.
18. Set the clock.
19. Enter the code into the radio receiver and tune it to receive radio stations.
20. Vehicles with central locking: Lock and unlock the doors with the remote control after connecting the battery to deactivate the anti-theft device.
Maintenance free batteries
MEGANE vehicles are equipped as standard with a battery that requires virtually no maintenance.
Occasionally, as part of maintenance, distilled water needs to be added to the cells of these batteries, and some maintenance activities need to be performed.
Attention! The battery in SCENIC cars does not require maintenance. Adding distilled water to these batteries is not possible, because the cover is not removed.
There is a ventilation hole in the battery cover (gas outlet) hole. To prevent electrolyte from leaking out of the battery through this hole, the battery should not be tilted more than 45°.
To charge the battery, you can use a regular charger or a fast charger.
When using an electronic charger, the battery does not need to be removed from the vehicle or disconnected. The charger's electronics prevent voltage peaks from occurring.
A discharged battery should be charged only with one electronic charger. When charging with a normal charger or a fast charger, the initial charging current is too high and this may cause damage or destruction of the battery.
When the electrolyte level in the cells drops, it is necessary to add distilled water.

If the vehicle is not in use, the battery should be recharged once every six weeks.
If the car is parked for more than 6 weeks, the battery should be removed and stored charged. The most favorable storage temperature is from 0°C to +27°C. At these temperatures, the battery discharges the least. It is necessary to charge the battery no later than after 3 months of storage. Otherwise, the battery will become unusable.
Clean the battery terminals regularly and lubricate them with protective grease.
An auxiliary battery should only be used as an exception because in this case the discharged battery is exposed to high currents.
Caution: Do not turn on the booster battery without cranking the starter.
