Charging the battery (Renault 19)

Even if the battery is not in use, it must be charged periodically. It tends to discharge itself over time. Therefore, a removed battery, like the battery of a constantly used car, should be charged once a month.

Connecting the charger

1. Remove the plastic cover.

2. Connect the positive wire to the positive terminal of the battery and the negative wire to the negative terminal.

3. When using the charger, please remove the cables from the battery.

4. The gas generated during charging must escape through the ventilation holes in the housing.

5. The charging current at the beginning should be about 10% of the battery capacity (for example, 6.0 A with a 60 Ah battery) and automatically decrease during charging.

6. When charging a battery, distilled water partially decomposes. The resulting hydrogen and oxygen vapors are dangerous explosive gases.

7. When charging the battery, do not smoke or use open fire near it, ensure good ventilation of the room.

8. Spark discharges when disconnecting from the terminal or when connecting to the terminal of the charger or battery cable may cause ignition of the oxyhydrogen gas.

Fast charging of the battery

If you are in a hurry, you can leave your battery for charging at a car repair shop. An hour later, the battery will be charged again. Remember the following:

1. Fast charging can cost an older battery its "life".

2. It is necessary to disconnect both cables from the battery. High charging current can damage sensitive electronic components of Renault 19.
