16.0 Oil circulation
Through the central axis of the filter element, the filtered oil enters the pressure lubrication line. When the oil filter is clogged, the bypass valve directs the unfiltered oil directly into the pressure line. In case of insufficient oil pressure in the pressure line, the contact of the pressure sensor-switch 7 opens and the oil pressure warning light on the instrument panel lights up (see illustration 16.0).
From the pressure lubrication line, oil through the discharge channels enters the bearings of the crankshaft 4, intermediate 5 and camshaft 6. Through inclined holes in the crankshaft, oil enters the connecting rod bearings and from there is sprayed onto the piston pins and cylinders.
In a diesel engine, engine oil enters through a hole in the camshaft to lubricate the vacuum pump 8 (see illustration 16.0).
