Motor oil (Renault Fluence 1)

Caution: Use only recommended quality oil (see service book).

Check the oil level frequently and change it regularly. Using a lower quality oil than recommended or operating the vehicle with a low oil level will damage the engine. It is permissible to use higher quality oils than recommended. When operating in adverse conditions, it is recommended to use a higher quality oil than indicated on the sticker.

Unfavorable operating conditions

During long-term operation, check the oil level more often than usual:

• when towing a camper or trailer;
• in mountainous areas;
• at high speed;
• at temperatures below -30°C or above +40°C;
• when traveling short distances (less than 10 km) at low temperatures (below 5°C).

Recommendations for checking and replacing engine oil and oil filter

Note: When filling and topping up, the quality and viscosity of the oil must match the characteristics of the oil in the engine.

To ensure maintenance intervals are met, all engines are filled with specialized synthetic motor oil by the manufacturer.

It is recommended to check the oil level every 2,500 km.

The most accurate results are obtained by measuring the oil level on a cold engine before starting. Incorrect results are obtained by measuring the oil level immediately after turning off the engine. The dipstick shows too low an oil level, since it does not have time to flow down into the crankcase.

Checking the oil level using the instrument panel readings

When displaying a message "Checking control functions" press one of the buttons 3 or 4.

If the level is above the minimum: the message "Oil level" appears on the display, accompanied by rectangular symbols 1, which are replaced by dashes 2 as the level decreases.

Note: Accurate display of the level is not possible if the previous trip was short.

If the oil level is low: the instrument panel displays the message "Tor tsr oL 1eue1" and the indicator light with the wrench symbol lights up.



Checking the oil level using the dipstick. Remove the dipstick and wipe it with a lint-free cloth. Insert the dipstick as far as it will go (for vehicles equipped with a C dipstick plug, screw the plug in completely).

Remove the dipstick again.

Check the oil level: it should not be below the "Min" mark A or above the "Max" mark B.

After checking the level, insert the dipstick all the way or tighten the dipstick plug all the way.

Note: If the maximum level is exceeded for any reason or if an abnormal drop in level is detected, do not start the engine and contact a service station.

Topping up or filling oil

Unscrew plug 1.

Add oil (for reference: the difference in oil level between "Min" and "Max" on dipstick 2 corresponds to a volume of 1.5-2 liters, depending on the engine model).

Wait about 10 minutes for the oil to drain completely into the crankcase. Check the oil level using the dipstick 2 (as stated above).

After checking the level, insert the dipstick all the way or tighten the dipstick plug all the way.

Average volume of oil added during oil change, including oil filter

• Engine 1.4 TSe: 4.65 l.
• Engine 1.6 16V: 5.0 l.
• Engine 2.0 16V: 4.2 l.

Replacing the oil filter

Place the vehicle on a two-post lift.

Remove the engine oil pan guard.



Place a container under the engine to collect the oil.

Remove the oil filter from below using the Mot. 1654 tool with a diameter of 64 mm (1) for the 2.0 l engine and the Mot. 1329 tool with a diameter of 76 mm for the 1.4 and 1.6 l engines.





Lubricate the oil filter gasket with fresh engine oil.



Install a new oil filter. Screw the oil filter until the gasket touches the engine surface.

Tighten the oil filter by hand 3/4 turn.

Remove the oil collection container.

Wipe off any oil spills with a rag. Fill the engine with the oil recommended by the manufacturer. Crank the engine with the starter until the oil pressure warning light on the instrument panel goes out.

Check for oil leaks in the oil filter area.

Install the engine oil pan guard.

Wait at least 10 minutes.

Check the engine oil level using the dipstick. Top up the oil level if necessary.
