Attention. Use only recommended quality oil (see service book).
Check the oil level frequently and change it regularly. Using a lower quality oil than recommended or operating the vehicle with a low oil level will damage the engine. It is allowed to use higher quality oils than those recommended. When operating under adverse conditions, it is recommended to use an oil of a higher quality than that indicated on the label.
Unfavorable operating conditions
During long periods of operation, check the oil level more often than usual:
- when towing a camper or trailer;
- in mountainous areas;
- at high speed;
- at temperatures below -30°C or above +40°C;
- when traveling short distances (less than 10 km) at low temperatures (below 5°С).
Recommendations for checking and replacing engine oil and oil filter
Note. When refueling and topping up, the quality and viscosity of the oil must correspond to the characteristics of the oil in the engine.
To comply with the maintenance intervals, specialized synthetic engine oil is poured into all engines by the manufacturer.
It is recommended to check the oil level every 2,500 km.
The most accurate results are obtained by measuring the oil level on a cold engine before starting. Incorrect results are obtained by measuring the oil level immediately after turning off the engine. The oil dipstick indicates too low an oil level, as it does not have time to drain down into the crankcase.
Checking the oil level according to the readings on the instrument panel
When displaying a message «Checking control functions» press one of the buttons 3 or 4.
If the level is above the minimum: the message appears on the display «Oil level», followed by rectangular characters 1, which change to dash 2 when the level is lowered.
Note. An accurate level display is not possible if the previous trip was short.
Megane III
Fluence
If the oil level is low: the instrument panel displays the message «Tor cr ol 1eye1» and the warning light with the wrench symbol is on.
Determining the oil level with an oil dipstick. Remove the dipstick and wipe it with a lint-free cloth. Insert the dipstick all the way (for vehicles equipped with «probe plug» C, close the plug completely).
Remove the dipstick again.
Check the oil level: it should not be below the mark «Min» A or above label «max» IN.
After checking the level, insert the dipstick until it stops or tighten the dipstick plug until it stops.
Note. If the maximum level is exceeded for any reason or if an abnormal level drop is detected, do not start the engine and contact a service station.
Topping up or filling oil
Open plug 1.
Add oil (for reference: difference in oil level between «Min» And «Max» dipstick 2 corresponds to a volume of 1.5-2 liters, depending on the engine model).
Wait about 10 minutes for the oil to completely drain into the crankcase. Check the oil level with dipstick 2 (as mentioned above).
After checking the level, insert the dipstick until it stops or tighten the dipstick plug until it stops.
Average oil change volume, including oil filter
- Engine 1.4 TSe: 4.65 liters.
- Engine 1.6 16V: 5.0 liters.
- Engine 2.0 16V: 4.2 liters.
Oil filter replacement
Place the car on a two post lift.
Remove the engine undertray.
Install a container to collect oil under the engine.
Remove the oil filter through the bottom using tool Mot. 1654 diameter 64 mm (1) for 2.0 l engine and attachment Mot. 1329 with a diameter of 76 mm for engines of 1.4 and 1.6 liters.
Engines 1.4 and 1.6 liters
Engine 2.0L
Lubricate the oil filter gasket with fresh engine oil.
Install a new oil filter. Screw in the oil filter until the gasket touches the surface of the engine.
Tighten the oil filter 3/4 turn by hand.
Remove the oil collection container.
Wipe off any oil spills with a rag. Fill the engine with oil recommended by the manufacturer. Crank the engine with the starter until the oil pressure warning light on the instrument panel goes out.
Check for oil leakage in the oil filter area.
Install the engine undertray.
Wait at least 10 minutes.
Check the engine oil level on the dipstick. Top up the oil level if necessary.
