Checking the direction indicators and hazard warning lights (Renault 19)

The hazard warning light system must always be in good working order, so it is supplied with current from the power supply wire "3" (red) directly from the "plus" of the storage battery. The direction indicators receive energy only when the ignition is on through the ignition switch from terminal 9 through fuse No.6.

1. With the ignition off, press the right pushbutton switch above the heating switch on the instrument panel.

2. All direction indicators and the red signal light on the instrument panel should flash in the same rhythm.

3. Turn off the hazard warning lights. Turn the ignition off and on.

4. When the turn signal lever is pressed, the turn signals on one side should light up in the same rhythm, and the indicator lamp on the instrument panel should also flash.

Direction indicator and hazard warning lights

Malfunction	Cause of malfunction
A.The green direction indicator lamp flashes very quickly and the hazard warning lights flash at a normal rate.	The incandescent lamp is faulty or there is no contact.
B. The turn signal lights in the car and the indicator lights when turning and the hazard warning lights are on for a long time or do not light at all.	The light relay is faulty.
C.When turning, the direction indicators light up, but the hazard warning lights do not work.	1. The red wire (terminal 3) between the pushbutton switch and the battery is faulty. 2. The connector behind the instrument panel is not connected correctly or is damaged. 3. The hazard warning light switch is faulty.
D.The hazard warning lights work, but the turn signal does not come on when turning.	1. The purple wire (terminal 5) between the combination switch and the light relay is broken. 2. See C 2 and 3.
E. The direction indicators do not light either when the hazard warning lights are on or when turning.	1. Fuse #6 is faulty. 2. See C 1-3. 3. Poor ground connection.

Help with a faulty turn signal relay

With a faulty light relay, continuing your journey presents a certain danger because in heavy traffic and, above all, in the dark, your intention to turn may not be understood by other road users.

1. The relay is located on the relay panel in the fuse box.

2. Lower the fuse box.

3. Pull the light relay out of the relay panel.

4. Install a jumper between terminals 1 and 2 (there is a marking on the relay). To do this, connect the contacts to the relay holder (these terminals are located opposite each other), insert a paper clip or thin wire and crimp.

5. Reinstall the relay.

6. When the turn signal lever is pressed, the turn signal lights on one side of the vehicle remain on continuously.

7. Simulate the flashing of the turn signal lights by turning the turn signal lever on and off.
