Despite the wear of the brake pads, the brake pedal stroke does not increase, since the piston of the brake cylinder, moving forward, provides a constant, equal distance between the brake pads and the brake disc. Therefore, it is impossible to determine the degree of wear of the brake pads by the length of the brake pedal stroke. If you carry out maintenance of your Renault 19 yourself, then you must constantly monitor the condition of the brake pads.
1. The minimum allowable thickness of the brake pad lining together with the bearing part for all modifications of Renault 19 is 6 mm.
2. It is possible to accurately measure the thickness of the brake pads only with the wheel removed.
3. Any rod with a diameter of 6 mm can be used for control. If the lining thickness (together with the bearing part of the block) is 6 mm, it is necessary to replace the front brake pads.
