Note: During installation, a suitable locking compound will be required to coat the flywheel bolt threads and the mating surfaces of the flywheel and crankshaft.

Removal

1. Remove the clutch as described in Section 6, or automatic transmission as described in Part F of this Section.

2. Mark the position of the flywheel/drive plate relative to the crankshaft.

3. To loosen the bolts, the flywheel/drive plate must be locked. To do this, screw a long bolt into one of the transmission mounting holes and insert a wide screwdriver into the flywheel/drive plate ring gear.

4. Loosen the mounting bolts and remove the flywheel/drive plate from the crankshaft.

Inspection

5. Inspect the flywheel/drive disc for scratches on the contact surface with the clutch disc and wear or chipping of the ring gear teeth. If the contact surface with the clutch disc is worn out, the flywheel can be reground, but it is better to replace it. If the ring gear is worn or damaged, it can be replaced, but it is best to leave this work to a Renault dealer or auto repair shop.

6. On models with automatic transmission, carefully inspect the drive disc for warping, cracks around the bolt holes, or other damage. If damage is found, the drive disc must be replaced.

Installation

7. Clean the mating surfaces of the flywheel/drive plate and crankshaft.

8. Position the flywheel/drive plate on the crankshaft, aligning all previously made marks.

9. Clean the threads of the flywheel/drive plate mounting bolts, then apply a few drops of thread locking compound to the threads. Tighten the bolts in a diagonal sequence to the specified tightening torque Specifications.

10. Install the clutch as described in Section 6, or automatic transmission as described in Part F of this Section.
