Checking the serviceability

1. Check the pressure as described in previous chapter.

2. Disconnect the fuel return line from the injection line. Attach a piece of hose to the return coupling and insert the other end of the hose into the measuring flask (volume of about 2 liters).

3. Turn on the fuel pump by short-circuiting terminals 3 and 5 on the relay; see previous chapter.

4. Note the amount of fuel pumped by the pump in 30 seconds. The correct values are given in Specifications.

5. Remove the jumper from the relay. Put the pump back in place.

6. If performance is low, make sure that the voltage at the relay contacts and at the pump contacts is equal to the battery voltage. (The pump wiring connector is accessible through a hatch in the floor.) A 1 volt voltage drop results in approximately a 10% reduction in performance.

7. If the supply voltage is normal, but the performance is low, there are two possible reasons: either the fuel supply hose is clogged (including the main fuel filter and the filter in the oil pump inlet pipe), or the pump is faulty. If the pump is defective, replace it.

8. Finally, reconnect the fuel lines.

Removal and installation

9. Be guided Chapter 9 from Part B of this Section.
